Jeanne Shaheen Receives Endorsement of New Hampshire Troopers Association
Monday October 13, 2008

(Manchester, NH) – The New Hampshire Troopers Association today endorsed Jeanne Shaheen for US Senate, citing her work on behalf of state troopers when she was Governor and her commitment to fighting in Washington for the resources that troopers need to do their jobs.  As Governor, Shaheen toughened the penalties for anyone who risks the safety of a law enforcement officer by committing a hoax, strengthened sick leave for troopers and put more state troopers on the road.

"We don't often endorse in federal races, but in this case we wanted to be certain that New Hampshire voters know that as Governor, Jeanne Shaheen looked out for the needs of troopers," said Lou Copponi, President of the New Hampshire Troopers Association.  "She worked to strengthen our sick leave, raise our pay and put more troopers on the streets.  She has always been a friend to law enforcement in New Hampshire and she will be a friend to law enforcement when she is in Washington."

"Following September 11th, as Governor, I called on state troopers to meet new challenges to our state's security and to respond to the new safety concerns of our citizens," Shaheen said.  "Our troopers rose to meet this challenge ably and without hesitation.  I am proud of the work we did together to put more troopers on the streets and give the troopers the resources they need to do their jobs."

As Governor, Jeanne Shaheen signed legislation to put more troopers on the streets of New Hampshire and she toughened penalties for anyone who risks the safety of a law enforcement officer by committing a hoax.  Under Governor Shaheen, the sick leave rules for troopers were strengthened so that so that no trooper suffering from injury or illness would have to jeopardize his or her ability to support their family.

The New Hampshire Troopers Association represents the non-commissioned men and women of the New Hampshire State Police.  NHTA is committed to ensuring the best possible working conditions for all troopers and works to improve pay and benefits to the men and women of the New Hampshire Troopers Association, who provide professional service to all of New Hampshire's citizens.
